Dear Ms Hill...
I work at the State Library of Kansas in Topeka. At this minute I'm cataloging a short biography of John F. Overfield. Unfortunately the bio doesn't list dates of birth and death. I did a search on google.com to see if somebody had put up more info on Mr. Overfield online and found your querey.
Do you have that information? The biography appears in a 4 volume set called: A STANDARD HISTORY OF KANSAS AND KANSANS (1918 edition). We have the book in our library. The book has also been put online and Mr. Overfield's bio appears at:

If you'll check the ATLAS catalog at:
http://lib.wuacc.edu/search/
and do a "General Subject" search for
"overfield"
you'll find the record for John F. Overfield. If you can supply with the years I'll add them to the record.
