Although the original roots come from Spain, most Latin American Ovalle descendants are from Chile. History has it that the California Gold Rush of the mid 1800's caused a massive migration of South American Miners up North along the American (Continental) Pacific shores.
The Potosà mines in the Central Mexican state of San Luis were also at their peak. As these migrant miners arrived in Acapulco (Before it became a resort, of course) to get food and rest, they were convinced to stay and work in San Luis. There are entire towns in the state where the last name Ovalle is more than common. Their roots can invariably be traced to former mining workers, several generations back.
The same could have happened as they stopped in other Latin countries with powerful mining centers...
