First Archer I have found is Edmund Archer b. 17 Apr 1759 Culpeper Co. Va.
d. 17 Feb 1851 Oldham Co. Ky
Susanah Piner b? d?
Edmund served in the Rev. War, one of his sons was
Jessie W. Archer b.cir 1797 Ky, d. after 1870 French Lick, Orange Co. Indiana
he marr. Mary Simmons 01 Feb 1818 Washington Co. Indiana
and it is this line that is colorful.
Jessie and Mary had 10 children:
John, Susan who marr. George Washton McGrew a bigamist, Benjamin, Martha,
Thomas m. Jane Wolfington, Leonard m. Rebecca Leonard, James, Hannah m.
Henry Phillips, Martin , and Moses.
Thomas, John, and Martin were all Lynced at Shoalls Courthouse, Martin Co.
Indiana 09 Mar 1886 they were known as the "Archer Gang". There has been
ballads written and sung about them Martin had a son Martin that also became a
member of the gang. It is said some of them rode with Jessie James for awhile.
They were finaly arrested and while awaiting trial the townfolks broke in the
jail at
midnight and lynched them, according to court records and newspaper stories
the "sheriff drank a fifth of whiskey and was so scared he died of a heart
