Changing horses in MO during the war-your opinion needed

Okay, the main key that I see towards Bloody Bill Anderson either being killed in Missouri or living on in Texas is the changing of horses before the alleged attack by the Union forces. Now, my question to ALL OF YOU is why the hell wouldn't Bloody Bill Anderson change horses and escape to Texas? I would think that Bill would've heard something before hand and gotten away. It doesn't make sense to me that anyone would catch him off guard.

I know the Stone County side and the Brown County side, BUT I'm asking people to put away the surveys and newspapers and geneology and just think.....

I await EVERYONE'S unique viewpoint on this!
