Dorrie,
This is most helpful and does indeed solve the mystery for me surrounding Trenton. That is very interesting and I would not have thought that could have happened. That also explains why I found some of the children in 1860 census records in counties around Bureau County.I'll read the History of DePue and see what else I can find out, thanks for the link!.
In speaking about the Searl family, I have a friend who's maiden name is Searle, I would assume it is a derivative and potentially related.I'll ask her if her family is from that area and see if she knows anything.
I'll also contact the genealogical society in Princeton and see if they can help me with searching probate records, perhaps old newspapers (if available), etc.In answer to your last question about the parents of Nancy and Adam, I don't, that's one link I've been looking for for a long time. There is an Adam Ouderkirk in who was born in the late 1700's who could possibly be his father, but I haven't made the connection yet.I'll let you know if I find anything.
Thanks so much for your help on this, you have been a world of help in pointing me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Cort
