Adrienne - There were Otway families in Ireland. There was a Thomas Otway in Co. Tipperary in 1625, and an Ann Otway married into an English family in Co.Kilkenny in 1715. It seems likely that at least some went to Ireland from England earlier than the major settlement of English Protestants there in the Cromwellian period. A seat of the old Irish family of Fogarty appears to have been taken over and renamed CastleOtway. Many English settlers in Ireland returned to England after the Great Famine in Ireland, so that there may be little trace of some names. I have also seen a reference to a Gage family in Ireland - probably similar settlers - but I can't give you any more info. offhand. I'll keep you posted if I find out anything more. Hope this helps! Máire.
