I have Maria Ottman, dau of Johan Nicholas Ottman and Magdalena Kling. I have that she was born Feb 25, 1805 and that she died Jan. 11, 1894. In my records, she married Jacob Kniskern Nov. 19, 1822. She would have been 17 which is quite young in those days. Usually men were in their mid-tenties and women were in their early twenties. It's possible that she had two husbands.
I do not have a Daniel Becker on my file. That is not to say that he didn't exist. There were Beckers in the area. One of the problems doing genealogy of the early upstate NY German settlers is that they carried on the German tradition in naming children. The first Ottman immigrant into the US in colonial times was Christyan Ernst Ottman (1731-1821). He came to Schoharie County and married twice, had 12 children, almost all of whom had large families and named their children all the old family names as each other. Hence we have many John, Peter, William, Christian, Christina, Catherine and Marias etc. born within months or a year or two of each other. Frequently it is difficult to get the lineage correct. I am working hard to eliminate errors.
I will be glad to exchange information with you if you are willing to send me your snail-mail address. My files are on Family Tree Maker, but I am not too adept at sending stuff by e-mail. I would be most interested to have your information about Maria (Ottman) and Daniel Becker.
Is your e-mail [email protected]?
