Jim, hope you are still around. I have OTLEY/OUTLEY somewhere in Virginia. My g-g-grandfather, William Outley/Otley married 5 Jun 1834 in Hamilton Co., Cincinnati, OH. It is said that he was born VA(census)Eng. (family tradition) and that his family came from England and settled in Virginia. His father (do not know his name) had a plantation with slaves and that he learned he was going to die and called for his lawyer and his slaves and freed all the slaves and gave them the land their cabin was on and ask that they stay by his wife until she raised her small children. It is said that they all stayed by her. Can you give me what information you have on Otleys in Virginia, especially Williams? Both my g-grandmother and gg-grandfather's names were spelled Otley in some places and Outley in other places. Also spelled Outly in another. This has been one of my most difficult lines to research because of so many spellings of their name. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
