Although I am not sure the OTENEY name is part of the same family, the 3 most used variations of the Oatney name are OTTENI, OTNEY, and OATNEY.
The OTTENI spelling is the family name still used in Europe (mostly Southern Germany) and some in the United States (mostly in PA).
The branch that stayed in OH, eventually spelled the name OATNEY.
The OTNEY spelling is a variation still used in the United States (mostly Kansas area) from a branch from the OTTENI that settled in OH.
There are clues that the families in the U.S. that spell the name OTTNEY are related. Research is still in progress on this possibility.
