Hello Margaret,
How very kind of you to think of my interests. I don't know if there is much I could think to ask you about Taylor County. Well, maybe a couple of things: for instance, do you know what Fen Holloway actually looks like? I visualize it during the civil war as being some place inhabited by deserters and union sympathizers but only because I read that somewhere. There is spomething though..My first wife remembers her grandfather John Henry Osteen (1855-1942) saying that the family was in a 'camp' during the war. I now wonder if that may have been Cedar Key which served as a haven for those who feared for their safety during the war. Do you know if there is any kind of information office on Cedar Key which may lead one to discover whether any list was kept of such persons seeking haven on Cedar Key? I have written to the national archives in order to determine whether John H. Ostten may have joined the union army. The reply was that no such record was found. I have therefore not been able to determine where the family spent the war years. Thanks again for your offer. Olin T.
