Dick, Many thanks for the response. Some of it I already knew, but you gave me enough new stuff that I was able to confirm Charles's parentage. His father's name was Orlando Osgood. I have one census, 1850 for Center Township, Marion Co. Indiana that shows Orlando born in Indiana. But then I have 1870 for Champaign Co. Illinois that shows him born in Missouri. I know I've also seen something that indicated he was born in New York as you indicated. Of notable interest here is the fact that Orlando and wife Elizabeth were both deaf mutes. The 1850 census shows him in an asylum for the deaf and dumb. Could not identify Elizabeth there, though. Still don't know her maiden name. 1880 for Champaign Co. shows 6 year old Charles living in his mother's household along with several siblings. Orlando must have died sometime between 1870 and 1880. The Elizabeth that you mentioned was my grandmother, Elizabeth Dell Osgood Pickering. Her siblings included Evelyn, Bess, Lela, and Bartle (your Bartie). I actually had a chance to meet all of them before they died except Bartle. He had moved to Louisville, all the way across the state from Fulton. Never got a chance to make that trip before he died in 1964. Unfortunately, I met them long before I got into genealogy, so didn't really have an opportunity to question them and talk to them before they all died. I believe Orlando's father was William G. Osgood, but haven't been able to confirm that yet. If I can help you out in any way with this family let me know. Again, many thanks. Art Notify Administrator about this message?
