Jack Osborne, 87, NC/TN, obituary; Harrell-Osborne
Jack Osborne, 87, Johnson City, died Tuesday, July 21,
2009, at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City,
Washington Co TN.
Born September 1, 1921, a native of Ashe Co NC, he lived
most of his life in Johnson City, TN.
He was a graduate of Science Hill High School, where he
earned All-State and All-Southern football honors, and was
part of Science Hill’s inaugural Hall of Fame in 2007.
He proudly served his country during World War II as a
bomber pilot in the Army Air Corps and returned to Johnson
City to open Varsity Dry Cleaners, which he owned and
operated until retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Lola
Harrell Osborne; sister, Georgia McClain; and beloved
wife, Kathryn 'Katie' Taylor Osborne.
Survivors include two daughters, Janie Hyder and husband,
Mike, and Kathy Simounet and husband, Tim, all of Johnson
City, TN; one brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Leah,
of Greeneville, TN; one sister, Ruth Vest, of Johnson City,
TN; two grandchildren, Amanda Hyder and Taylor Simounet,
of Johnson City, TN; and several nephews.
The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from
5 p.m to 7 p.m, Friday, prior to the service.
The funeral service for Mr. Osborne will be conducted at
7 p.m., Friday, July 24, 2009, in the Morris-Baker South
Chapel. Rev. Tim Bowers will officiate. Active pallbearers
will be selected from family and friends.
Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the
funeral home by 12:30 p.m., Saturday, to go in procession
to the cemetery.
The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 p.m.,
Saturday, July 25, 2009, in the Monte Vista Memorial Park.
The Boone Dam Post # 4933 will accord military honors.
