AMAN to your post.I've been down that blind alley for years!! My maidan names is Orsbun..My gGrandparents had 7 son's (my grandfather was one of them) and they all spelled their surname different,as one of my uncles said the R kept jumping around..I found my gggGrandfather in the 1800 census,his last name was spelled Osborn! I've even found it spelled Ozbon..So you just have to stick it out and keep looking for the right dates and so on.I agree with you back then when census takers can and you said your surname right or wrong that's how they put it down..Back then they did the best they could..No matter the mistakes they made we should be proud of them,if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be here today..Always Diana
