Here is the bible page I have: Joseph Henry Osborn born August 16 1854 Sarah Ann Osborn born June 25 1856 Enoch Osborn December 23 1858 Edward Osborn born February 28 1860 Enoch Osborn born December 5 1862 Emma Osborne born January 24 1867 Jabez Osborn born January 30 1870 Louis Hollingworth Osborn March 1 1873 Alice Gertrude Osborne June 19 1875 George Frederick Osborne Feb 21 1878 Now for my question: You will notice that the last name Osborn changes to Osborne with the last two children. Family lore says that the spelling of the family name changed after someone was convicted and sent to Australia on a convict ship. Since the name changed between March 1873 and June 1875, we assumed that the conviction was somewhere between those two dates. I have searched ship lists to Australia and court records in Nottingham and Derby which is where the family lived. I can also rule out the culprit being Joseph Henry Osborn as he was a fireman on the railroad, married Mary Jane Cresswell, daughter of Benjamin Cresswell and Myra Palfreyman. Joseph and Mary Jane had three children: George 1883, Herbert 1885 and Alice in 1887. In 1887, Joseph came to America and in 1888, Mary Jane, George, Herbert and Alice joined him. In 1894 Joseph was crushed between two rail cars and he was buried on Herbert's ninth birthday. In 1896, George drowned trying to swim across the Ohio River and in 1897 Mary Jane died, leaving Herbert and Alice. Herbert and Alice went to live with Joseph's brother, George, who had also come to the United States. None of the other siblings emigrated as far as we know and I cannot find any record of any of the known family being convicted and sent to Australia. Can any one help with this information????
