Carolyn Thanks againn for your work, I have posted all but the last Volume or two of the Calander of NJ Wills on this Fourm I had to split them up into different posts to do so. You can click on my name then review my postings. According to the “Genealogies of NJ Famlies” Taken from the Genealogical Mag OF NJ The Thomas Osborn Family Complied by Richard Cook Caleb Osborn b abt 1664 is the son of John Osborn and Mariam Other Children are Thomas John Ephraim Edward James New Jersey Archives First Series Vol 23 Abstracts of Wills Vol 1 1670-1730 Edited by William Nelson Patterson NJ 1901 Pg347 Osborne, Caleb of Elizabeth Town Administration on the Estate of. Granted to John Osburne of the same place. As you can see this Caleb died and his brother Edward also died soon after Caleb Caleb and Unknown Had Josiah John Joshua Caleb and Jane Shaw had Jane Caleb b abt 1704 Samuel New Jersey Archives First Series Vol 30 Abstract of Wills Vol 2 Calander of New Jersey Wills 1730-1750 Edited by A. Executors Brothers and friends John Potter, Weaver and John Clark, cordwinder Witness Jonathan Allen, Caleb Osborn Jr, Jno. Osborn. Poved Oct 14, 1748 This Suggest that Caleb Osborn Sr is still there It has been suggested that it is Caleb Osborn Sr who is the one in Rowan County New Jersey Archives Series 1 Vol 32 Calander of New Jersey Wills Vol 3 1751-1760 Edited by A Va Doren Honeyman Somerville, NJ 1924 Pg 240 1760, Feb 12 Osborn Samuel of the Borough of Elizabeth, Essex Co. Sons; Samuel, and Michael. Grandsons Cooper Osborn and Adonijah Osborn ( under age). Lot at the Papermill Damn, a meadow called Osborn's Land, Land on the eastside of the West Branch of Rahway River, Between Thomas Baylie, the hiway, the river and the Jury line. Executors, son Michael, and James Carpenter. Wit Daniel Ogden jr., Caleb Osborn, Thomas Taylor. Proved Feb 19, 1760 Lib G pg 142 1761, Aug 13 Inventory made by Caleb Osborn and John Osborn. Here you have Caleb Osborn Sr in Essex County doing inventory on his Brother Samuel’s Estate. Caleb Osborn of Rowan County was there by 1756, I find it hard to believe that Caleb would travel that Distance, over 400 miles to inventory this Estate. From North Carolina Genealogy Vol XIV no 4 Winter 1968 British Records NC State Archivbes Box z.5.1769 Folio 111-113 Report of the Provost D Guard March 145 1781 Morgan Osborn, Caleb Osborn, confined by Major Desfurd, Prisoners of War, Taken at the Yatkin River. Folio 121 Rebels confined in the provost 21 March 1781 Morgan Osborne, Caleb Osborne, Roan Militia, Recomed for Parole, Taken at their house. As you can see that Caleb was arrested in 1781, by the British, for being in the Militia, if he was the Caleb Sr in the Essex County B 1704 he would be about 77 years old in 1781. New Jersey Archives First Series Vol 38 Calendar of New Jersey Wills Vol 9 1796-1800 Edited by Elmer T. Hutchinson Newark NJ 1944 Pg 271 1797, Nov 2 Osborn Caleb Sr of Elizabeth Twsp., Essex Co Int. Adm'rs Caleb Osborn Jr and David Lyon Jr. Fellowbondsmen John Spinning and Josiah Congar; all of said Co. 1797 Nov 3 Renunciation of Esther Osborn, Witness Andrew Wilson and Jonathan Townley Lib 36 P 504 1797 Nov 3 Inventory by Andrew Wilson and Jonathan Townley File 8968-8975G Pg271 1799, Feb 11 Osborn Caleb of Elizabeth Twsp., Essex Co Int Adm'x Susanna Osborn, Fellowbondsmen, Abner Osborn and John Jewell; all of said Co. Lib 38 Pg261 1799 Feb 12 Inventory by Abner Osborn and Josiah Woodruff File 9550-9553G There is no record of the death of Caleb Osborn who was b in 1704 so Mr Cook says he died before 1779, this is the first year of the surviving Ratables for NJ , so Caleb did not show up in it So the death of the Death of the Caleb in 1797 must be the Caleb Jr of the earlier records, and his son died in 1799. I think if Caleb came from a family which earlier had relocated to this country, he probably came from this Thomas Osborn family, but not from these Calebs in the Calander of NJ Wills. Alexander seems to be of a different breed than Caleb, and or Ephraim, of who is said is a Fur Trader. Currently my project is going through all the Rev War Pensions, of all the surnames in thw 1778 Rowan County Tax list, who served from NC, Looking for clues. Perhaps a daughter married one. This may prove more than I can handle. The Mathew Osborn Line of Delaware is in Rowan County also, they settled in what is now Gulliford County NC It seems that many, many famlies came from Lancaster County PA and surrounding areas, or at least stoped there for a short time. Now I am hopeing for some connections, through DNA testing, that will lead us in some direction to look. As it is, the best I can hope for is to do surveys here and there.
