Joseph Osborn 7/25/03
It's getting even worse, Joe. The Jonathan & Gretta believers have now started to add seven generations to their lineage by linking them up with the legitimate line of Thomas Osborne of New Haven, CT and East Hampton, Long Island, NY.
They say the mythical Jonathan's father, the equally mythical James [he born in Warwickshire, Eng., in 1672 or 1674, depending on their "sources," and arriving in Jamestown in 1710 aboard the Godspeed] was begat by Thomas' son, John, and his wife Rebecca.
Never mind that said Thomas' three youngest children were baptized in New Haven [1642-1646/47].
Never mind that the presence of his said son, John, as a landowner in the East Hampton area is solidly documented as far back as 1655/56 -- including specific mentions in 1670 and 1675.
And never mind that the Godspeed's last recorded voyage was in 1622. Wonder who dredged it up to carry James and Jonathan across the pond almost 90 years later?
Awwwggghhh!
