This is a long shot but wanted to ask if you know anything about an Osborne family, related to the Duke of Osborn, the parents died enroute, aboard ship.Their child, a great grandaughter of Duke Osborne?Her name may have been Mary Elizabeth Osborn.She was taken in by another family and raised.
I used to think this was my great grandmother, according to the story told by my grandmother, but I don't know if there is any truth in the story.I would love to know more... It may fit in to your missing link aboard ship.
I would love to meet you or look at your site.According to The Whitney Genealogy by Phonex,.. (Keeler, Whitney, Mead, Osborn, Northrop, Hoyt, Peck were family names of my branch.They came from England very early in the settlement of Long Island, NY and CT.
According to the information I have David Osborn b. around 1700, prob. at East Chester NY; about 1726 m. Rachel Keeler, b. 4 Oct 1706 at Norwalk, CT, though recorded at Ridgefield;
---- James Osborn of New Milford m. Elizabeth Mead; son Lewis Osborn m. Mary Northrop 9 Sep 1768 and settled in Brookfield;
Their son, Orrin Osborn, was a printer and publisher, Danbury Recorder, published until his death; m. Sara Crocker (Pitman).
They had two children, I think. born in Danbury,
1. Mary Elizabeth Osborn, b at Poughkeepsie, NY, 1 MAY 1824.
2. Henry Peck Osborn, b. in Danbury, 6 Feb 1826; a locomotive-engineer;married and settled in Bridgeport,Sarah Elizabeth Smith on 29 May 1849.
Mary Elizabeth Osborn was my great grandmother.She married John Gregory (back to early 1600s, family came from Nottinghamshire, England) John and Mary made their home in Southport, CT... I know a bit more information from this point on, but am missing the big picture of the Osborn family.Can you help me?
I fully expect they are connected to early Long Island, Norwalk, Hartford, Weathersfield and surounding area.
Thanks for sharing ..
