Blair,
An Ephraim settled in the New River Valley of Montgomery Co, Va (now Grayson Co) with brothers Enoch, Solomon, and Jonathan. A fort was built and this was called the Osborne Settlement. Solomon was killed by Indians while on a hunting trip with Ephraim and Enoch. (History of Grayson Co by Benamin Nicholls.) They were members of a militia company under the command of Enoch. At various times the unit also included Robert Osborn, Jeremiah Osborn, and John Osborn.
The 1759 Rowan Co, NC Tax list includes the following Osburns: Matthew, Alexander, Samuel, John, William, Jonathan, Stephen Jr & Sr. Ephrim, and Caleb. The 1761 list (area now Davie Co, NC) also has these Osborns: Ephrmon, Samuel, and James.
In 1834 Ephraim applied for a Revolutionary War pension. He also served against the Indians. One of those who vouched was Jemimah Pennington Smith whose brother, Joshua my fifth gr grandfather, served with the Osbornes. (For over 100 years Penningtons and Osbornes can be found in some of the same places as neighbors and some in-laws.)
