Site of Osborn Information
The Union Landing Historical Society, Brielle, N.J. undertook a project of restoring an abandoned and neglected burial ground that had been established by Lt. Abraham Osborn on his farm. The burials here are from 1822 to 1868 and all but three of the 21 graves are daughters-in-law or grandchildren of Lt. Osborn (Revolutionary War) plus himself and his wife Elizabeth. This burial ground is now located in a residential area. The headstones had been broken, scattered and partially buried, with the sole exception of the Lt. The Society has found most of the pieces, reconstructed the stones, probed to find their original positions, and has them now set upright. We have recorded names and dates from all stones, although a couple of the Bible verses can not be read. If you're doing research, Brielle was formerly a part of Wall Twp., which itself was part of Howell Twp prior to 1851, and Howell was originally part of Shrewsbury Twp. If anyone would care for detailed information, I w!
ill be happy to answer. My e-mail address noted. Also, if anyone has further details on this part of the Osborn family, we would be pleased to receive any information that may be available. Many thanks.
