Dear Priscilla,

I currently can't find any connection. But let me share with you what I do know and have. My dad talks about all the intermarrying that took place.

My father's grandparents were Antonio Maria Ortega(1868 in Chimayo Died 7-20-1948) m (21-11-1888 in Penasco). Maria Anita Vigil (born in Chimayo. My dad told a story about an uncle who would take his mother and all the children to Chimayo to pick fruit, and the uncle would visit the Ortega branch that I believe is yor branch. Unfortunately, my Dad can't remember his uncle's name.

The only Francisco Ortega I could find is the following:
e.) Albino Ortega (2-4-1818) M. Maria Ramona Fernandez (2-19-1824)
(1.) Antonio Fernandez Ortega (5-28-1845)
(2.) Jose Francisco Ortega (10-19-1847)

And these are the Mestas that are in our family:
(6.) Maria Encarnacion Fernandez (1850) m. Jose Librado        Mestas
       (a) Manuel Antonio Mestas (1870) m Tomasita Trujillo (1870)
       (b) Maria Mariana Mestas (1873)
       (c) Jose Ramon Mestas (1874) m Ana Maria Rael (1886)
       (d) Maria Gertrudis Mestas (1876)
       (e) Maria Gertrudis Mestas (1879)
       (f) Jesuita Mestas (1881) m Eufemio Archuleta (1881)
       (g) Maria Mestas (1882)
       (h) Juan Estevan Mestas (1883)
       (i) Encarnación Mestas (1884)
       (j) Madelena Mestas (1888)
       (k) Jose Mestas (1891)
(7.) Maria Placida Fernandez (1851) m. Jose Cristóbal
       Clemente Mestas (1851)
(a) Maria Doloras Mestas (1874)
(b) Abran Mestas (1876)
(c) Maria Rebecca Mestas (1886)
(d) Juan Antonio Mestas (1887)
(e) Jose Mestas (1890)

Also, my father godparents were as follows and they lived in Chimayo:
Sinforosa Montoya (b @ 8/1895; d 1981) m. Andres Maestas (b 1888 d after 1930)
       1. Carasiolo (Lolo) Maestas m Alice ¿
       2. Olivi (male)Maestas (died)
       3. Adela Maestas
       4. Louisa Maestas
       5. Joe Maestas
       6. Unknown Maestas (looked like Pedro; teacher in Santa Fe Public schools)

If any of this can be confirmed by your family, please let me know. My dad thinks we have a connection to David Ortega.
