Hi Eva,

Have you checked the birth certificate of your father and his father? Probably before they immigrate to Netherlands they were living in Spain and during the spanish inquisition they moved to Holland. That was century XVII. Many of them went to help Holland against Spain as they were at war that time. That's why it happened the Dutch Invasion in the northeast of Brazil 1624, when many Dorta, D'Orta went there and worked as translators/interpreters for hebrew, ladino, spanish, portuguese. Pieter Van Dorth later was called Pieter Van Dorta as his counsin Manuel Van Dort was well known as Manuel Van Dorta (Mnuel D'Orta) or De Orta!! The same the famous sephardic Garcia de Orta or in many books Garcia D'Orta.
