The ancient doges were chosen from the royal
family of ancient Illyria who after Padua
was sacked then Aquiliea, took refuge at the
isle of Torcello. The Dux or Doge(Duke)Orso
was slain in the year 737. His son Deusdedit
was Doge from 742 to 755 when he was over-
thrown by the traitor Galla (Galla was over-
thrown by popular revolt in 756). Among the
related families was the Orseolo family of
whom one was named Orso Orseolo. The plural
form of this family was dell Orseoli. The
royal family of Illyria go back through the
kings and princes such as Agron and his wife Teuta,Boetiean King Cadmus and his wife Harmonia, back to Agenor son of Antenor the
Trojan (the only family to walk away from
the burning city of Troy). They go back to
Teukros and his wife Pleione who are very
likely descended from Mushku or Moschi, the
tribe of Meshech son of Japheth son of Noah.
I have a more detailed list if you are
interested.
