Mills-Orrick connections

Rebecca Orrick, daughter of Benjamin and Lydia Orrick of Hawkins County, Tennessee, was married to William Mills. William was the son of John Mills and Alley Coffey who were married in Wilkes County, North Carolina and moved to Hawkins County about 1810. They lived on Big War Creek, the same area as Benjamin Coffey. Isham Mills, a probable uncle to John, sold land to Benjamin Coffey on Big War Creek. James Orrick and William Mills served together in the War of 1812 from Hawkins County under Capt. Slatton.

The parents of John Mills were William Mills and Sarah Ellis, found in Halifax County, North Carolina around 1770 or so. William's father is believed to be John Mills, possibly of Lunenburg County, Virginia and earlier, of Maryland. Mills researchers have been unable to tie John of Halifax to Maryland, but records have definitely indicated Maryland as the origin of the family. Likely suspects are William and John Mills of Prince George County, Maryland as well as a John Mills in Anne Arundel County who with his wife Mary requested permission to travel to Edgecombe County, North Carolina.

There aren't too many families with Maryland roots that wound up in early Hawkins County, both with possible connections to Lunenburg County, Virginia.

William and Rebecca Orrick Mills' daughter, Elley, married George Elrod and this couple can be found in Crawford County, Arkansas in the 1860 census. I've noted several Orrick families who were also in Crawford County during the same time. Have they been tied back to any Orricks in Hawkins County?
