James Orrock of Kinghorn, Fife

Our mystery man James Orro(c)k married Janet Thomson in 1883. On the marriage certificate he didn't give his parents' names, which is making it very difficult to find out anything about him. He was a shipyard labourer born about 1862 according to the marriage certificate and also the 1891 census. In 1891 his birthplace is given as Linlithgow. On census night he was boarding in Leith, while Janet was living with four sons (James, Robert, Andrew and William) in Kinghorn. They haven't been found yet in the 1901 census, and checking immigration and census records for other countries has so far failed to find them. Nor does James appear in Scottish birth records or on the IGI.

Does anyone know who James might belong to? Browsing the messages on this board has been really interesting (some very knowledgeable people out there!) and I'm hoping our James might ring a bell with someone.

Many thanks,
Loretta
