More Farmer Orr, Gilmer Co., Georgia
Just discovered that Farmer Orr was a member of Co. F, 16th Batt'n Georgia Cav. (State Guards). He was signed up for 6 months on 11 July 1863 in Tails Creek by Capt. Withrow.
The records indicate that he was captured on 22 Sept. 1863 at Knoxville, sent to Camp Morton and transferred to Fort Delaware on 19 March 1864. This makes him a rather tough old bird to survive a POW camp in his mid 40s.
What's interesting is that the Roll of Prisoners of War lists his name as F. S. Orr. If true, this is the first time I've seen his middle initial, 'S'.
This information came from the Confederate Service records, card numbers 45369193 & 47236028.
Can anyone add to this?
