Matthew O'Rourke, mid 1800s, NFLD to USA
O'Rourke (Rourke,Rorke)I am searching for info on my g-grandfather, Matthew O'Rourke, born about 1838 in Ireland. The family settled in Newfoundland - father's name was Bartholomew (known as Battysnugs). Matthew jumped ship, as a young man, to fight on the Union side in the American Civil War. His first marriage was to an American woman (name unknown). They had two children. Wife is said to be buried in Gloucester, Massachuestts, but can find no death, marriage or birth records. Please contact me if you have a Matthew O'Rourke in your family tree.
