Hello, need info. I cannot find any information on my Gr,Gr,Gr grandfather. all I know is he was born in Newry, County Down, Ireland, he married Ann Armstrong of Blackrock, County Dublin, Ireland. He was a machinist and boilermaker, his wife was the daughter of a linen weaver and bleacher. at some point he was employed by Messrs. Laird, he became involved in a political movement of the young Ireland party, his employers tranferred him to Birkenhead, i think England not sure about where that is. in 1848-49 the Laird's it says had occasion to send men to Algiers, Louisianna to make preparations for the reception, docking and repair of their vessels. They sent Owen James O'Rourke in charge of the contingent force. it says that he persuaded the owners to load to capacity the ship with Irish immigrants, made such by the famine of 1847, with permission to put in at Mobile, Alabama. If anyone can help me please do, I'm sure he had brothers and sisters but I just don't know. Thank You ! Patrick M. O'Rourke
