Dear Jean,
I thought it best to send an attachment and hope it goes through!First of all, there is a relative of yours that is already putting together your O'Rourke family tree. You may view the pedigree/family file at the following web site www.familysearch.orgThis web site provides an enormous amount of genealogicalinformation and is put together free of charge by the church of the Latter Day Saints.Once you are at the main page you click on Ancestral search or search or ancestors. Then type in Sam O'Rourke's name only.Narrow your search to Canada and the search will give you a list of Sam O'Rourkes.Click on the Sam from St. Scholastique and you'll find the site.It also provides links to other great web sites.
The information I have on your O'Rourke family from the material on hand at my home is as follows (If you require more and I know there is lots, I would be happy to send it to you when I get a chance to continue my search at the archive library here in Quebec):
Resource:Baptèmes et décès, St. Canut1886-1909 and décès, St. Canut, St. Sauveur des Monts & Ste. Marguerite du Lac Masson, 1911-1989, author of both books is Berthe Forget Brissette
English Translation:Baptèmes=baptismsDécès=deaths
Please note that many Irish names have been spelled in French (Marie=Mary) and descriptions etc. are also in French.I would be happy to translate for you should you have any questions.
Brief history:St. Canut, St. Scholastique and St. Columban are all towns very close to one another. The closest largest "city" is St. Jerome. The towns now fall under the region of "Mirabel" as they were merged once the MIRABEL airport was established in that region.
As Jean-Pierre Léger explains in his book listing the tombstone inscriptions of the people buried in the town, St. Columban was established in 1837 and inhabited by IRISH families since the beginning of colonization.
Many IRISH families spilled into other neighboring towns such as St. Canut and St. Scholastique. There are copies of land grants given to the Irish people immigrating here from Ireland in the National Archive Library in Ottawa.I do believe St. Jerome might also have copies.
