Bowen, Marilee Ormsby advised me to contact you. I have traced, on my mother's side, back to George Ormsby in the 1700's. Documented purchase of over 600 acres in Craven Co, North Carolina in 1766 - purchased from Brice Dobbs from the Kingdom of Ireland(stated in deed). My George is listed as from Craven County, NC. George sold the land 4 years later, 1770 and at that time Sarah was noted as his wife. No wife listed at time of purchase. Cannot find him prior to 1766 - could he have been a recent immigrant? I did find something that listed a George Ormsby, Esquire, sponsoring some people that left from Sligo, Ireland. I believe that is how it was stated. Do not know year. Can you help? Thanks, Nita Phillips, Wilmington, North Carolina.
