Dear Ormerods
I am the adminstrator of the Lancaster and related surnames DNA project which is seeking to use private genealogical "Y DNA" tests to confirm or deny theories about families with the Lancaster surname, or any surnames thought to have a connection through unbroken paternal lines.
Although sceptical by nature, I have recently been convinced that some junior or illegitimate branches of the Medieval "de Lancasters" may survive today as families with the Lancaster surname and several others including Ormerod.

I would be extremely interested, by the way, if someone with the works of either George or Milton Ormerod can tell me what evidence was cited for the following, as my own Lancaster family comes from the Pendle region...
"George Ormerod, the historian, also found the De Lancasters owning a 'detached property in Pendle', far from their power base in Westmorland. In The Ormerods Milton Ormerod puts forward the suggestion that some very junior or bastard De Lancaster had married the heiress to this property."
