Orlandos from Porticello/Santa Flavia
Posted by: Tom Orlando Date: January 05, 2000 at 19:51:55

I am from Milwaukee,Wisconsin and this is where my grandfather,Tomas Orlando, his brother Joseph, sister Theresa and cousin Dominic Orlando all settled after leaving Sicily around 1910. Last June,1999, I had the priviledge of visiting the fishing village known as Porticello in Sicily. My ancestors actually came from Santa Flavia which is just across the railroad tracks from Porticello. My family and I stayed at the Baia delSol Hotel in Porticello and got a first hand experience
of our rich heritage. There are many Milwaukeans of Sicilian ancestry and I would say that 50-70% originated in the Porticello/
Santa Flavia area.I was not so impressed by the area but by the people. Especially those who left it to make a better life for themselves and for their children to follow.
If any of the above names are familiar please post.
