Hi. I'm not related to this family. Here is the marriage for your g-grandparents from the Quebec, Vital and Church Records (Drouin Collection), 1621-1967:
James O'Reilly, steamfitter (John O'Reilly, deceased & Ann O'Reilly of this parish)
m. 4 Jul 1906Montreal (Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil)
Ann Margaret Scollard (Thomas Scollard, deceased, & Ellen Mahoney of this parish)
I found James & Ann in the 1911 Census, and on the same page was a Philippe O'Reilly, b. Jun 1882 Quebec, wife Marie Louise.Philippe & James are brothers. Here is Philippe's marriage:
Philippe O'Reilly, of the parish of Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil (John O'Reilly, deceased, & Anna O'Reilly)
m. 26 Jan 1905 Montreal (Ste-Brigide)
Marie Louise Proulx (Hyacinth Proulx & Marie Louise Lampron)
So, this is probably the O'Reilly family in 1891:
1891 Census of Canada about Veuve John O'Rilly
Name: Veuve John O'Rilly
Marital Status: Widowed
Age: 39
Birth Year: abt 1852
Birthplace: Ireland
Relation to Head of House: Head
Religion: Roman Catholic
French Canadian: No
Father's Birth Place: Ireland
Mother's Birth Place: Ireland
Province: Quebec
District Number: 172
District: Montréal Centre
Subdistrict: Ste Marie Ward
Household Members:
Name Age
Wife of John O'Rilly 39 -widow- b. 1852 Ireland, parents b. Ireland
Patrick O'Rilly 17 -son- b. 1874 Que; Plombier
Rose Ann O'Rilly 17 -dau- b. 1874 Que
John O'Rilly 16 -son- b. 1875 Que; Plombier **
Catherine Oreilly 15 -dau- b. 1876 Que
Thomas Oreilly 13 -son- b. 1878 Que
James Oreilly 11 -son- b. 1880 Que
Philipp Oreilly 10 -son- b. 1881 Que **
Here is a baptism for Philippe:
Philippe Henri Reilly, b. 20 Jun, bap 21 Jun 1881Montreal (St-Vincent-de-Paul), son of John Reilly & Ann Reilly.
Your grandfather, James, was baptized in the same parish:
James Reilly, b. 22 Jul, bap 27 Jul 1879 Montreal (St-Vincent-de-Paul), son of John Reilly & Ann Reilly.
Here are baptisms for the twins:
Michael Patrick Reilly & Rose Ann Reilly, b. 8 Jun, bap 9 Jun 1873 Montreal (St-Patrick), son & dau of John Reilly & Ann Rilly.
This might be a burial record for their father:
John O'Reilly, d. 8 Dec, bur. 11 Dec 1889 Montreal (Basilique Notre-Dame), age 41, husband of Ann Riley.
So, that would give John a birth year of 1848.I think it's also safe to say that John's wife Ann's last name was also Reilly, O'Reilly, or perhaps Riley since those are the names consistently used in the parish records.
Here is a marriage for another child, Catherine:
Joseph Kalahan, machinest (Michael Kalahan & Mary Ellen Fenton)
m. 7 Jun 1904 Montreal (Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil)
Catherine O'Reilly (John O'Reilly, deceased & Ann Reilly)
witness: Rose Ann O'Reilly
I could not find John in the 1881 Census, but I think that might be because he was listed as Charles. This might be the family in 1881:
1881 Census of Canada about Charles Riley
Name: Charles Riley
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Married
Age: 35
Birth Year: 1846
Birthplace: Ireland
Religion: Catholic
Nationality: Irlandaise (Irish)
Occupation: Journalier
Province: Quebec
District Number: 91
District: Hochelaga
Sub-District Number: E
Subdistrict: Hochelaga Village
Division: 1
Household Members:
Name Age
Charles Riley 35b. 1846 Ireland; Journalier
Ann Riley 31-wife- b. 1850 Ireland
Rose Riley 8b. 1873 Que
Michael Riley 8b. 1873 Que
Charles Riley 6b. 1875 Que
Catherine Riley 5b. 1876 Que
Thomas Riley 3b. 1878 Que
James Riley 2b. 1879 Que **
So John O'Reilly might actually be John Charles O'Reilly, much like his son John was listed as Charles in the 1881 Census, and John in the 1891 Census.
Finally, when I found the baptism for son Thomas, there is a clue about their father's family:
Thomas Reilly, b. 21? Nov, bap 24 Nov 1877 Montreal (St-Vincent-de-Paul), son of John Reilly & Ann Reilly. -godparents- William Laddy & Catherine Reilly, paternal aunt of the baby.
So, now you know that John had a sister named Catherine, but that's about it.I wish I could find a marriage for John & Ann.It's possible they married in Ireland and then came right over to Quebec.
This might be John & Ann on a passenger ship list:
Canadian Passenger Lists, 1865-1935 about John Reilly
Name: John Reilly
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1846
Date of Arrival: 17 Jun 1872

--John Reilly26b. 1846Laborer
--Ann Reilly20 -wife- b. 1852
Hope this helps.Annie
