Hi Kevin again....I heard from my cousin. She says the O'Reillys came from Cavan,Ireland, directly to Placentia in the 1730s and that over the years very many of them moved to USA. She doesn't know specifically who or how many, but re upstate NY, she remembered there's a headstone in Placentia RC Cemetery for Patrick O'Reilly, daughter of Thos. & Sarah, who was born in Placentia but died in Saranac Lake,NY, on July 16,1911,at the young age of 34. She's not 100% sure, but thinks he may have been a doctor there.
My Greenes have been in Placentia since those days also, and I estimate therewould be easily somewhere between 5000 and 10,000 descendants(various surnames) of Point Verde Greenes in USA over those years, quite possibly that many alive there now. I mention this because it's quite possible thePlacentia O'Reillys could likewise have several thousand descendants in USA also. In earlier days in Nfld. it was spelled O'Reilly,O'Reilley,Reilly,Riley,Rily,Rielly, and similar.
You can see the Placentia headstone listings by using Google and finding the NLGenWeb site, then rolling down that page past a green outline map of Nfld.,to Placentia Bay under the map....click on that...and when it opens, click on Placentia Bay East(The Bay is about 140 km long, sodivided into three areas). When that page opens, roll down to wherethere's a box for cemetery listings, and the large RC cemetery could be in a second box below the other cemeteries, then click on O as that has most of the O'Reilleys, but there are just a few under R,which isa separate page.## You could also look up Stonepics.com via Google, and find listings there. That place also sells CDs of photos ofthe headstones invarious cemeteries, and has covered all the Placentia headstones that they could read.
Though thisguy died in Saranac Lake in 1911, remember it's quite possible he went there in the first place because healready had relatives in the area. If you do find any connections, please do let me [email protected]
