Dear Tom,

James Lycurgas Ord was the son of James Ord and Rebecca Ruth Cresap. James Ord was reputed to be the illegitimate son of King George IV of England and Maria FitzHerbert. There are many online websites which tell his story but nothing concrete about his origins. He is said to have been 'given' to a Ralph Ord and his wife Mary of London by whom he was brought to America, but it could all be myth - who knows.
