Ord is a common name in the north of England.... Durham and Northumberland areas and parts of Scotland. There are naming patterns peculiar to the north of England and Scotland as follows:
1st f child named after mat grandmother
1st m child named after pat grandfather
2nd f child named after pat grandmother
2nd m child named after mat grandfather
3rd f child named after eldest mat sister
3rd m child named after eldest pat brother
and so on. In the south of england in the 18th Cent it was also common to use the maiden name of a mother or grandmother as a given name.
Conversely some people in NA were given names of people their parents admired or who had helped them in some way.
