I am seeking information on John JOHNSTON who was born in New York ca. 1814. He appears in the following Polk County Census records.
1849 Territorial Census – male 21+
1850 Territorial Census living with the ALDRIDGE family.
1860 Oregon Census: It appears that John JOHNSON has married a widow, Phebe A. ZUMWALT who has a daughter, C. ZUMWALT. John and Phebe have two daughters, Aloida (?) JOHNSON age 2, and Esther J. JOHNSON age 8/12. (Luckamute Post Office)
1870 Oregon Census: John JOHNSON continues to appear with Phebe A. and daughters Aloida and Esther. (Luckamute Post Office)
1880 Oregon Census: Phebe A. JOHNSON is now head of the household and John JOHNSON no longer appears in the census records. The household now contains daughter, Esther; son, Fred (?) JOHNSON, age 5 years; daughter, Aloida FOSTER married to son-in-law, N. FOSTER.
I believe John JOHNSON may be the father of my great-grandfather John Abner JOHNS(T)ON who was married to Ruth Jane JAMISON in Dallas, Polk County, Oregon.

John Abner JOHNSTON/JOHNSON.
b. ca. 18 August 1832, MS,
d. 06 May 1897, Winters, Yolo, CA.
John left MS when he was a young boy, moved to MO and then traveled the Oregon Trail in ca. 1850 to CA and then Oregon. Join the First Regiment Oregon Mounted Volunteers in 1855. Became member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Polk County, Oregon in 1855 under the pastorate of Mr. S. T. Gilliam.
He married Ruth Jane JAMISON/JAMESON on 11 December 1856, Dallas, Polk, Oregon. Her parents were John JAMISON, born in NC and Mary WELLS, born in Kentucky. Ruth Jane was born in Wisconsin on 12 December 1841.
