I wasn't able to find obits for either Margaret or John DILL. I did find a death and a funeral notice for Margaret in The Oregonian Newspaper. They are as follows:
The Oregonian, Saturday, July 28, 1951, Section 3, page 5, Col. 2, Daily Vital Statistics, Died:
"DILL - July 27, Mrs. Margaret Dill, late of 4823 NE 18th Ave. Arrangements entrusted to the Pearson Funeral Church."
The Oregonian, Sunday, July 29, 1951, Section 2, page 6, Col. 7, Daily Vital Statistics, Funeral Notice:
"Dill - July 27, Mrs. Margarett Dill, late of 4823 NE 18th Ave. Mother of Mrs. Mollie Eckhardt. Services Monday, July 30, at 1 pm, at Pearson's Funeral Church, NE Knott at Union Ave. Vault internment Riverview cemetery."
If you were trying to find the information on Margaret's husband, John DILL, the date of death you gave me was not for her husband John. I determined this through looking at some of the available Portland City directories from 1912-1954. The city directory for 1932 was missing but the one for 1933 listed Margaret as the "widow of John" and she was living at 426 NE Holland. Her son John was also living there.
I went back to the Oregon Death Index and found another John DILL listed as having a spouse named Margaret, and date of death was 12 Sept 1931, Certificate #2467. This would fit the information from the Portland city directories where it showed Margaret DILL as a widow prior to the 1936 date you gave. I ran out of time at the library, so I couldn't look up an obit, death and or funeral notice on this John DILL. If you like, I can return to the library and see if I can find anything in the newspaper on this John.
In the last years of Margaret's life, the city directory showed she was living at the same address as her daughter, Molly ECKHARDT (Mrs. Anton/Antone ECKHARDT). Antone died 24 Aug 1951 and Mollie died 3 May 1982. In the 1953/54 city directory, the listing for Mollie ECKHARDT shows she was living at 422 NE Holland as a renter. (The reverse directory for this address showed it to be the address for a Barbara OLSON. Is it possible Barbara was kin?)
From the 1914-1930 city directories, John Dill, husband of Margaret (Maggie; Margt), had occupations listed as follows: blksmth; mach; lab; hlpr UPSystem. The 1914 city directory listed the sons John H. DILL, Jr. and Wm M. DILL, living with their parents at 757 Union Av N. The city directory for 1918, listed their daughter, Cora DILL, living with them at 404 Fremont, and in 1926 she was listed as living with her parents at 848 E 10th N.
I checked the census records for the family. In 1900 they were in Swanton Township, Lucas County, Ohio, E.D. 22, sheet 1B, lines 80-85. It listed John as age 38, born Oct 1861 in Russia, a railroad laborer; Maggie, age 33, born Oct 1866 in Russia, had given birth to 5 children, and 4 were still living. They had immigrated in 1891, had been in the USA for 9 years, spoke German, and had been married for 14 years. Two of the children were born in Russia (Mollie, age 13, born July 1886; John, age 10, born Aug 1889). Two of the children were born in Ohio (Cora, age 8, born Nov 1891; William, age 6, born Feb 1894).
The 1910 census found them in Lincoln City, Lancaster County, Nebraska, E.D. 51, sheet 2A, lines 34-37, and just Cora (age 18) and Willy (age 16) were living with the parents. There was another John DILL in the same town, possibly the son? In 1920 and 1930, the family was in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. In 1920, John and Margaret were listed on E.D. 161, sheet 21B, lies 78-79. In 1930, they were listed on E.D. 26-502, sheet 3B, lines 87-89, and their son John Jr. was living with them. (John Jr. was listed here as being born in Ohio, where as in 1900 he was listed as having been born in Russia and immigrating in 1891 to the USA.)
If you are looking for the place in Russia where the family came from, there is a possible source in one of the libraries I use. The source is the Multnomah County "Foreign Voter" Registration Cards. If the family members voted, they would have had to prove their citizenship first. The information as to where and when they became citizens would be on the card. And, if you are lucky, the card "might" give the place in Russia where they were born and possibly the names of their parents. Each time they moved, or if they change their voting party, they had to make out another card. There should also be a stamp on the card that reads "deceased" and a date the entry was made or the date of the death should be on the card. If you would like me to check these cards for you, please let me know, and I can do that the next time I go to this library.
Let me know about the Foreign Voter Registration cards an if you want me to look at the other death date for John DILL to see if there is an obit, death and or funeral notice.
