I'm sorry but I wasn't able to find anything in the Oregonian newspaper on William/Will S. McQuigg. The Oregon Death Index listed his date of death as two days earlier, on 22 December 1932. I looked for several days from the 22nd on, at the death and funeral notice sections, as well as where they had published obits in that year. (However, I did not scan every column of every page of the newspaper for those several days.)
I also checked to see if his wife Lura or Laura McQuigg might have been in the Oregon Death Index but couldn't find her listed. I thought if she died prior to William, they may have been buried in the same cemetery, and the same funeral home may have handled both deaths.
I looked in the Portland City Directories for 1915, 1917, 1918, and didn't find William or his wife. In 1920 there was a listing for a W. S. McQuigg, as a laborer for the Jones Lbr. Co., without the name of a spouse. In 1924 there was the following listing: "McQuigg, Wm S. (Lura) bkpr h546 Mason." In 1925, William's middle initial was changed to "W" the wife's name was Lura, and he was listed as "clk Lambs club" at the same previous address. In 1926, he was listed with a middle initial of "F" with wife Laura M., occupation of bkpr and still living at 546 Mason. In 1927, 1928, there was a Wm S McQuigg, without a listing for a spouse, renting at 22 10th N, listed as a salesman. In 1931, a listing for a W. S. McQuigg, clk renting at 269 Salmon.
The address on Salmon is the same one as in the 1930 Census, for Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, E.D. #26-64, sheet 2A, line 10. In this census, a "Willie S. McQuigg is listed as a lodger, M, W, 49, single, born in Ohio, father born in Ireland, mother born in Ohio, he is in a brokerage for the lumber business. The 1920 Oregon census for Portland, Multnomah County, E.D. 32, sheet 15B, lines 83-84, listed a William S. McQuigg, age 39, same birth place information for him and his parents, listed as a civil engineer. There was also a listing for a wife, Laura, age 36, born in Illinois and both parents born in Illinois. They were living at 269 1/2 Columbia St.
Is it possible they were divorced sometime after 1926, or that Lura may have died? If there was a divorce, Lura may have remarried or moved to another city or state. I found it curious that William was listed as "single" and not divorced or widower on the 1930 census.
If you still want to find where he is buried, you will probably have to write for a copy of his death certificate, which was certificate #324. This should give you the name of the funeral home, cemetery and person who supplied the family information for the certificate. The current telephone book for the Portland Metro area doesn't list anyone with the McQuigg surname.
