Hello,
Your answer is Mrs. A. L. HERRING was listed as Jessie P. on the 1940 US Federal Census. Her husband was listed as Albert L HERRING. They were both listed as born in Illinois. Albert is listed as a "Grain buyer" and Jessie doesn't have an occupation listed. Albert is age 62 and Jessie is age 61. Both had completed the 4th year of high school. It looks like their address was 2106 SE 89th (or 87th).
Source: 1940 US Federal Census, Election Precinct 404 Kelly, Multnomah County, Oregon, Sheet 61A, stamped page number 197. Census date: 9 April 1941.
On the 1940 Census, they said they had lived in the same house in 1935. I checked the Polk's Portland City Directories that were available to me (1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943/44), but I didn't find them listed. I checked spellings of Herring, Hering, Harring, Haring.
