LAYMAN [or LEHMAN] - STUART [or STEWART] - AGER

[Research Note: There were also entries for a Floyd E. STEWART with wife Mary P, and a Floyd P. STEWART with wife Helen in this same 1930 Portland City Directory. The Floyd STEWART living at 1942 was living with his sister, Cleo of the same address. It looks like Floyd was renting or a resident, at the home of his sister, Cleo.]

LAYMAN, Cleo, r 7657 SE Hawthorne Blvd

I checked the State of Oregon Marriage Index for Cleopatra Layman (or Lehman) and found the following. This Cleopatra LAYMAN may or may not be your kin. I found this marriage listed in: CD-4, State of Oregon Marriage Index, 1935-1939 on CD, published by the Genealogical Forum of Oregon.
Bride:LAYMAN, Cleopatra
Groom:SHEPARD, Alvin Gates
Date:24 May 1935
County: Yamhill
[Research Note:I checked the 1930 census to try and find Alvin Gates SHEPARD. I found one person Ancestry had indexed as Adrain G. SHEPARD, age 68, born in Ohio and his wife was Belle, age 62. born in Michigan. I checked the Oregon Death Index and found that there was a Belle SHEPARD who died in Yamhill County 17 Feb. 1934 with a spouse listed as Alvin. (Yamhill County isn't on the border of Multnomah County. Portland is in Multnomah County. The county seat for Yamhill county is McMinnville, and it is about 40 miles from Portland. I also looked at the cemeteries in Yamhill county to try and find where they are buried. Both Alvin G. SHEPARD and Belle SHEPARD are listed as buried in the IOOF Cemetery in the town of Dayton. Yamhill County, Oregon. I didn't find a listing for Cleopatra.I checked the Oregon Death Index for Cleo, but didn't find her listed. I checked the surname spellings for LAYMAN, LEHMAN, and SHEPARD.]
The cemetery website I used was "Find A Grave" at:

Oregon Death Index

Certificate: 10772
Spouse: Charles
AGER, Charles H.
Died in Multnomah County, 13 November 1962
Certificate: 15083
Age: 89
Spouse: Oma
STUART, Floyd
Died in Portland, 13 Aug. 1930
Certificate: 2327
I didn't find an Obituary for Floyd STUART, but did find a Funeral Notice:
Portland, Oregon, Morning Oregonian, Friday, August 15, 1930, page 13.
"STUART__In this city, August 13, Floyd, beloved brother of Oma M. AGER, Mrs. LAYMAN and William STUART. Friends are invited to attend funeral services, Friday, August 15, at 2 P.M. from the Chapel of R. W. Gable & Co. Interment Lincoln Memorial Park."
I also looked at the obituary for Oma and found her listed as Oma Mae AGER in The Oregonian, Sept. 13, 1958, page 11, Section 1.
Oma was buried in the same cemetery as her brother, Lincoln Memorial Park. The funeral home was Colonial Mortuary. The obituary said Orma was born 31 Dec. 1874 in Hastings, Minn., that she had been a Portland resident for 50 years and had a daughter, Bernadine Corleone McCord, living in Charleston, Oregon. The obituary mentioned survivors as a brother, William S. STUART in Minneapolis, Minn., Oma's husband, Charles Herbert AGER, but no mention of her sister, Cleopatra.
I looked at the Oregon Death Index, on Ancestry, for any listing of someone named Cleopatra who would have died after 1935, and before Oma's date of death in 1958. There was one listing of interest for a Cleopatra BASSE, died in Portland, 31 Oct. 1952, but the obituary information didn't match any of your Cleopatra's family information.

Do you have access to Ancestry.com and to their section on Family Trees? There is a Family Tree for the "CORNWELL family" which has your STUART family [also found spelled as STEWART] and gives sources for several census records from 1860 through 1930, WW1 Draft Registration for Floyd. The family tree gave date and place of Floyd's death and lists his middle initial initial as "S." It gives information on the marriage of William W. STUART and Nancy J. CORNWELL with an approximate year of marriage. There was a reference about the 1860 census for Medora, Jackson County, Indiana, lines 25-30, the number at the top left of the page is 502, which showed Washington and Nancy STEWART. The researcher says that this Washington is the same person as William W. STUART. The tree also said that Nancy's parents, William and Rebecca, and her siblings were living next door. "Washington STEWART's" occupation is listed as carpenter, and that is the same occupation as one ofNancy's brothers, Houston. Washington is listed as age 22, born in Indiana, and Nancy is age 16, born in KY. The information given on Cleo is that she was Cleopatra P. STUART, born 1867 in Indiana, date of marriage was given only as the year of 1889 in Minnesota. The married name given was LEHMAN, but no first name for the groom. You may want to contact the person with this family tree. The owner of this tree is listed as "marianjoe_1" has been a member for several years and last logged in last month, so the person is active on Ancestry. There was additional information about the CORNWELL family in the file.
