William Gearhart had an Oregon Donation Land Claim, #1057 (at the Oregon City Land Office). It was located in Lane County, in Twp 18S Range 4W Section 19. According to that file, they arrived in Oregon on 9 Sep 1852, and didn't settle on the claim until 20 Nov 1854. He gave his marriage date as 18 Feb 1841, in Howard County, Missouri. His wife was Matilda Benson.
You will want to obtain a copy of the original file. They were filmed by the Federal Government, so you can access them through NARA, a Family History Center, or by contacting the Genealogical Forum of Oregon
Because the claims were given half to the husband and half to the wife, the fact they were divorced might make the file larger, and mean there could be some interesting documents.
Best part of them (in addition to the information they contain) is they have original signatures on them.
