i am not sure that John, elizabeth,Newman or Sarah are mine. that is what I am trying to figure out.
My great grandfather is the Maris Montgomery that Married Jennie Spencer. I do find on Maris death certifcate that he was born in Maryville, Mo. and that his fathers name was john and mother was elizabeth. Some how I accidently found a census of 1860 that listed a John and Elizabeth Montgomery. With the 2 children Sarah age 1 and here you go another different name a son listed as Neumaris age 4.
I could use any help to figure out if the John and Elizabeth that I found in the 1860 census for Nodaway County Maryville, Mo is my John and Elizabeth. I have seen that my great grandfathers name was spelled 2 different ways. in his obit which someone e-mailed me from Oregon it is spelled Mairies Forbes Montgomery and on his death certificate it is spelled Maries forbes montgomery.
i would like to get this figured out soon. for I am helping a uncle who is in very bad health which I do not know how much longer he will be around for he is in his late 70's and he has always wanted to know about the family history ever since his parents died. I do not know that If the John and Elizabeth I found in Maryville census that list the son Neumaris is my great grandfather Maries and maybe somewhere he changed his name or shorten it.
The John R Montgomery you list that was born in 1904 is my grandfather. Is there someway to look at census for Colorado in the 1900's and before to see if it gives more of a clue on John and elizabeth Montgomery.
How do I find more about the other John and Elizbeth, Ellen, Harriett, John and George you listed in Ill. I do not know if my family ever lived in Ill but from some research on the John and Elizabeth in Maryville they did go to Illinois.
You stated that you could email the doc on John R Montgomery b abt 1830 on the enlisted Army stuff.
