WHITNEY, J. R., editor of the Albany Herald and Herald-Disseminator, was born in Marion County, Oregon, May 1, 1860, and was reared in Eugene, graduating from the State University in 1884. He united with S. S. Train in purchasing the Albany Herald the same year, and began publishing a daily in 1885.
