In Reply to: Mary Emmitt & Eliza Barnes interred in City View, Salem by Carol Rose of 503

An article in the Daily Capital Journal, Friday, June 12, 1908, sure adds to the mystery:
Summary(because the article is in the fold of the binding)
J. Q. Barnes Dies from Paralysis
He died at his home at 545 Court Street.
Born in ????ly, Ohio, January 29, 1831. Civil war veteran. The year after the war ended he was married to Mary R. Emmitt and moved to Missouri. In December 1891 he moved to Salem. His widow, Mary R., and three children, all of Salem survive him. (One was Mrs. J H Baker.)
The funeral will take place Sunday although definite arrangements have not as yet been made.

June 15, 1908
With impressive military ritual, J Q Barnes, late captain of the 73rd Ohio regiment, was laid to rest by the locar GAR post yesterday afternoon at City View Cemetery.

From September 2, 1905
Captain J Q Barnes and family, who for many years have resided in the old William England residence, on Liberty street, have just moved to their own home, the Adams residence on Court street, opposite the courthouse square.

To add more confusion:
November 11, 1909
Mrs. S J Barnes died this morning at her home at 545 Court street. She was 67 years of age, and leaves three children, E T Barnes, the well known merchant; Mrs. J H Baker and Mrs. J A Mills. She also leaves her beloved aunt, Miss Eliza Barnes, to whom she was closely bound by ties of affection. The funeral will take place tomorrow from the residence and interment in City View Cemetery.

This one clears it up
Home from Kansas
Capt. and Mrs. J Q Barnes, of the New York Racket, who left for Kansas on Sept. 1 in response to a telegram announcing the sudden death of Mrs. Barnes father, David Emmett (as spelled), returned to Salem by the Salem local last evening. Capt. and Mrs. Barnes were accompanied to Salem by Mrs. Mary L. Emmett and Miss Eliza Barnes, mother and aunt respectively of Mrs. Barnes, who will make their future home in Salem.
