Hi Sue,
I found the following info:
A Maude Ratekin, Last Residence=97310, Salem, Marion Co. died Oct 1967, Born-8 Feb 1894. Her soc. sec. # was assigned in Nebraska before 1951. Source: Social Security Death Index, http://www.ancestry.com.
A Mrs. Maude Ratekin, packer, 1943-44 was listed in the Portland City Directory but no Mr. Ratekin listed. I couldn't read the entire entire listing.
You can contact the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society, http://oregon.gov/OSL/GRES/genealogy.shtml and ask if they have access to death records other than from the State.
You can request a copy of Maude's obituary from the City of Salem, http://www.cityofsalem.net/Departments/Library/books/Pages/RequestObituaryCopy.aspx for $5.00 which is a lot less cheaper than ordering a death record from the state.
