I need an obituary for George W. WILEY, 1859 - 1940. An obituary might be either in a newspaper for Albany area, for Prineville area, or both.

The George W. WILEY, for whom I need the obituary, is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Albany, Linn County, Oregon, Plot 9s. The inscription on the grave marker reads:
1865 - 1938
1859 - 1940
[Above information was at website for Find-A-Grave, Memorial #28880070.]
Oregon Death Index: George WILEY, died 18 Oct. 1940, in Crook County, Oregon. Wife: Nellie F. WILEY.

I'm trying to determine if this George W. WILEY was related in any way to two people. There seems to be more than one George in information I've found. I'm looking for the one who I've found in census records living with Andrew Jackson WILEY or living with his sister, Sophronia and her husband.

1) Andrew Jackson WILEY, born about 1840-1842 in Tennessee, died 17 Dec. 1911, buried in Roseburg at the National Cemetery. The 1880 Federal Census shows this Andrew J. WILEY living in Clark County, Washington, is age 39 born in Tennessee, is a Farmer, and is living with his wife Eliza A. WILEY (age 39, born in Washington). This couple has one daughter, Phemie M. (age 8). Eliza's maiden name was PARKER. In 1870, this Andrew is listed as Jackson WYLIE, living in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington, age 28, born in Tennessee, with wife Eliza. Living with Andrew and Eliza is a George WYLIE, age 21, born in Illinois. A biography found on Andrew shows he was born in Nashville, Tennessee 25 Dec. 1840 and in about 1843 moved with his parents to Winchester, Scott County, Illinois. About two years later, the family moved to Springfield, Sangamon County, Ill., and then to Pike County, Ill. It says on 4 March 1851 the family moved to the Northwest and settled in Vancouver, Washington. (There was additional information in the biography, in the book Clark County, Washington Territory 1885, page 173.)

2) Sophronia C. WILEY, born about 1847-1848 in Illinois. She married 1) William J. DOUTHIT (see 1870 Federal Census, Clark County, Washington Territory). 2) Charles CERBIN (see 1880 Federal Census Falls Precinct, Wasco County, Oregon). 3) R. O. EVANS (see 1900 Federal Census, Stevenson Precinct, Skamania County, Washington. R. O. is Richard.). Obituary in the Skamania County Pioneer Newspaper, 16 May 1924 stated that Sophronia "came over the plains and landed here with her parents in 1852 and has made her home in Stevenson for 25 years." Find-A-Grave website, shows Sophronia 'C. Wiley Douthit was born April 1847 in Illinois and died 16 May 1924 in Stevenson, Skamania County, Washington. She is buried at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River, Hood River County, Oregon. The 1900 census for Stevenson Skamania County, Washington, shows her birth as April 1847 in Illinois. In 1900 she is listed under the name EVANS. (There is additional information in the book Clark County Pioneers, A Centennial Salute, under the name of William J. DOUTHIT, page 490.)

This Andrew Jackson WILEY and Sophronia C. WILEY were brother and sister. What was George's relationship to them?

Note: There was another Andrew WILEY living in Linn County, Oregon, who might be the father of one of the men named George WILEY, but this Andrew is not the same one as Andrew Jackson WILEY who is buried in Roseburg, at the National Cemetery. I'm looking for a connection between George W. WILEY born in Illinois, Andrew Jackson WILEY, born in Tennessee, and Sophronia C. WILEY, born in Illinois.

Additional references to where I've found a George W. WILEY are below. I don't know if all these references are for the same person. There seems to be two different men named George WILEY, in the information below, born about 10-11 years apart. One is usually listed as born in Illinois and the other born in Oregon.

1930 Federal Census shows a Geo W. WILEY (age 72, born in Oregon), year of birth about 1858, and wife Nellie F. WILEY (age 58) living in Prineville, Crook County, Oregon.

1890 Veterans Schedule, Military: Geo W. WILEY, Private, Company C, 28th Regiment. Living in Clackamas County, Oregon.
Note: There was a George W. WYLIE listed at the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors website:
This George was in the 28th Wisconsin Infantry, fought for the Union in Company F, S. and his Rank in and out was Q.M. This may or may not be the same George who is in the census for 1890 in Clackamas County, Oregon. He is probably not the same one listed at age 22 on the 1880 census in Wasco County, Oregon, as he would have been too young to fight in the Civil War.

1880 Federal Census shows a George W. WILEY (age 22, born in Illinois), year of birth about 1858, in the same household as Sophronia K. CERBIN (age 32, born in Illinois), year of birth about 1848, and husband Charles CERBIN (age 22, born in Illinois), living in Falls, Wasco County, Oregon, census date 4 June 1880. George, Charles, and Sophronia were all listed as born in Illinois. This was Sophronia's 2nd marriage.

There is another listing in the 1880 Federal Census, Camp Creek, Wasco County, Oregon, Dist 125. Page 28D, Line 20. Date: 15 June 1880.
WILEY, George, W, M, 21, single, Farmer, born in Oregon (birth place of father and mother not listed).
Note: year of birth calculated by age would be about 1859.

1870 Federal Census shows a George WYLIE (age 21, born in Illinois), year of birth about 1849, in same household as Jackson WYLIE (age 28, born in Tennessee), year of birth about 1842, and wife Eliza WYLIE (age 26, born in Washington Territory), living in Clark County, Washington Territory, Vancouver Post Office, page 42..

Also, in the 1870 Federal Census, a George WILEY (age 11, born in Oregon), year of birth about 1859, in the household of Andrew WILEY (age 50, born in Virginia), and wife Elizabeth WILEY (age 26, born in Iowa), living in Lebanon, Linn County, Oregon. Siblings listed were Robert, Lavina and Harriett.

Note: There was another Geo W. WILEY listed on the Oregon Death Index:
Death Date: 8 Sep 1904, in Marion County, Oregon. No age was listed and no date of birth was given.

Our ultimate goal is to identify the parents of Andrew Jackson WILEY and sister Sophronia C. WILEY. Hoping that George's obituary will help us to do that. George might be a cousin or nephew.

Thank you,
Jan Fenter
