There ARE good and bonifide genealogy researchers out there on a fee basis. But, I have helped several that had paid for information, only to find the "facts" were NOT true. And, of course, when you post online, you will get BAD information. I've been tracking one such person for over a couple of years now that consistently finds wrong information or suggests research inconsistent with common sense or facts. So, no matter WHERE or HOW you obtain information VERIFY IT. I recently found 7 family trees, where 2 of them attached to a wrong family ONLY because the name was the same and the birth about two years different. NOW, before you consider paying, keep posting. There are also more researchers/readers on www.rootsweb.com boards than GenForum. I'd post there also. http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oregon.counties/mb.ashx While I haven't found much on the individual guest pages, you could try those: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~websites/usa/oregon.html If you don't subscribe to Ancestry.com, you might be able to use it at your local library using your library card...for free. While I haven't used it for research, Family Tree Maker: http://www.genealogy.com/ifftop.html also has searches. Lastly, there are volunteers all over that help. Not only on these boards, but also try the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness. READ the guidelines FIRST: http://www.raogk.org/oregon.htm There are SO many websites available also.
