I looked at both photo's that you sent, they may or may not be the same person. The eyes of the older are more sunken than the younger, but looking at a side versus almost straight on.Personally I don't believe they are the same person.
Neither were in uniform or other identification.
Your postings gave very little information on what you have, or even your purpose. You are identified as Graves Registration Officer.Does that mean you have a grave of a Fellows?
The company taking the photograph, have you researched to determine when they were in business. The picture of the younger fellows taken by this company, having "Fellows" on the back.In what manner did this picture become obtained from this company? Was it one of a number of individual photo's of veterans?Or, ANY connection to the war?Did you obtain others in this time from that company?Did they also have a name on the back?I guess the bottom line, when you post, identify where/when and how you got the photo and why you think it has a connection to what you are researching. If there is no connection to the war or the California Cavalry, this "Fellows" could be anyone, or perhaps part of an organization, the "Odd Fellows?"Is there any possibility he might be a son of the Augustus Fellows?
I guess it's the old criminal investigator in me that wants to know the story. But, at this point, they are questions you need to ask yourself if you don't know.
Since it is probably clear, the Augustus Fellows in Oregon is probably the same one in Arlington. The "Fellows" you have, if indeed has a connection to the Civil War, AND the California Cavalry, he must be one of the other two "Fellows".
I took a long at both.I feel that 2 LT William H.H. Fellows might be the subject of your photo. He was a printer (not painter as evidenced in the Census). His wife was featured as entering flowering plants, jams etc.in Placerville, CA.He also seemed to be involved in the El Dorado Fruit Company.Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture of this guy from other sources.BUT, there has to be one somewhere.

NOTE:While both census appear to read "painter", it also is possible to be "printer".I thought this as I read them. But, this link: http://www.nevadaobserver.com/Reading%20Room%20Documents/Nevada%20Journalism%20(1912).htmhttp://www.nevadaobserver.com/Reading%20Room%20Documents/Nevada%20Journalism%20(1912).htm
