How and when did James Galloway come to Oregon

James Galloway or James Gallaway married in Eugene, Lane Co., Oregon 4 Oct 1860 to Nancy Amelia WALKER. James was born 5 Feb 1928 in PA and apparently moved with his parents and sibs to Adams Co IL before 1850.
Does anyone know when and how he got to Oregon? The family tradition is he came on horseback but no dates.
He lived in the Eugene area a short time then moved to Linn Co and ended up near Lebanon. Died 30 July 1888.
