The Junction City (Oregon) Times of 29 December 1960, page 1, carried an account of Chief Whetstone's murder and his obituary. Among other things, the obit said that he was born in Chester, Oklahoma on 13 November 1917. He married Marian F. MONTGOMERY in Fairview, Oklahoma, on 6 April 1936.
He moved to Junction City in 1947. He started police work in 1950 and was on the police force of Albany, Oregon and with the sheriff's department of Linn county, Oregon, before becoming police chief of Junction City on 1 January 1960. Among his survivors were wife Marian, sons Dwain and Alvin both of Albany, Oregon, two unnamed grandchildren, his mother Mabel WHETSTONE of Fairview, Oklahoma, two brothers Oliver of Larned, Kansas, and Amol of Fairview, Oklahoma, and sister Olive STEWART of Wichita, Kansas.
